Glam Slam: NXT (4-22-15) & WWE Smackdown (4-23-15)

NXT

Hi guys! Welcome to this week’s edition of The Glam Slam! Time to once again cover all the action from NXT and WWE Smackdown. Let’s get to it!

NXT (4/22/15)

Finn Balor defeated Tye Dillinger. Balor winning this match didn’t do anything for Balor. It didn’t progress a storyline or prove a point. Dillinger, to put it bluntly, is a jobber. The crowd at one point was chanting “still a jobber”. It’s sad but at this point in his career it’s the brutal truth. This was just an excuse to get one of NXT’s most popular stars on the show.

Becky Lynch defeated Bayley and Charlotte in a number one contenders’ match for the NXT Women’s Championship. This was a good match. I prefer NXT’s Women’s division over the WWE Divas on the main roster. Once on the main roster they are lost in the shuffle and it’s no longer about wrestling and that’s a huge problem for me. Hopefully that will change as the new more athletic women in NXT are called up.

Hideo Itami defeated CJ Parker. This was the last match CJ Paker had with the company before asking for and receiving his release. Let’s just say t wasn’t a spectacular ending to his WWE career.

Ryno pinned yet another jobber…why? Well, it’s a weekly thing that’s why.

Kevin Owens defeated Alex Riley. As a big Alex Riley fan, this is heartbreaking for me. He is putting over the Owens / Sami Zayn feud so I will let it slide. I would like to see Alex Riley back on the main roster soon but that’s just wishful thinking at this point so I will take what I can get!

Smackdown (4/23/15)

Seth Rollins kicked of f the show by saying that he’s glad that Randy Orton attacked him on Raw which means that he has got all of the anger out of his system ahead of their Cage Match at Extreme Rules. Kane interrupted Rollins by telling him that he needs to start respecting him as he’s the one who’s the gatekeeper during his upcoming title match. Kane then said that Rollins needs to lay down for him just like he did himself a few weeks ago on Raw. Kane ordered a referee to start the match and demanded that Rollins lay down for him or he will reach down his throat and rip his guts out. Rollins caved in to Kane’s orders and laid down, to which Kane laughed and said he’s just messing with him.

Naomi defeated Natalya. Finally Naomi was given her own theme music! This is a vast improvement over the Funkadactyl theme song that hasn’t fit her character for quite sometime! This match was pretty equally balanced. It was a nice back and fourth match. I am looking forward to what they do with Naomi as a competitor and to watch her character develop, if given the chance and the time.

Dolph Ziggler and Neville defeated Sheamus and Bad News Barrett. This was a decent match. Nothing really noteworthy except to see how well Neville is getting over. He could be the next high flyer that really goes to the top of the card like Rey Mysterio did.

Ryback defeated Rusev via DQ. Snooze fest… I’m hearing that Ryback is beating Rusev cleanly at house shows now which doesn’t bode well for the Bulgarian Brute long term.

Kofi Kingston defeated Cesaro. The New Day made their way to the ring and Big E went on to say that there was a plague in the WWE Universe with a wave of negativity and lack of clapping. Xavier Woods then took over the microphone and said Cesaro and Tyson Kidd haven’t embraced their positivity but to have no fear as New Day is here. They then encouraged the crowd to chant “New Day Rocks” instead of “New Day Sucks” the crowd wasn’t having any of this but can you blame them?

Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns defeated Seth Rollins and Luke Harper. I could have done without this match. Why not just have Dean Ambrose –vs- Seth Rollins? If I have to sit through another Dean Ambrose and Luke Harper match I am going to lose it! Enough is enough! Typical two on two match with nothing exciting or new.

That will do it for me this week. Until next time, you can follow me on Twitter @GlamSlamSteph!
