Glam Slam: Drew Gulak

DREW GULAK

Hi guys! Welcome back The Glam Slam! Each week I will spotlight the best of the best in the world of independent professional wrestling. Independent wrestling is the lifeblood of the industry. It’s the one remaining place where everything feels “pure”. It is where the dream still lives and the passion and love of the craft fuel each and every competitor. Simply put, it’s the best thing about professional wrestling and my personal favorite part. I hope you share the same feelings as I do and I hope you enjoy this column each week. This week we take a look at a true mat technician, Drew Gulak.

Drew Gulak was born April 28, 1987 in Abington, Pennsylvania. After beginning training in 2004 under Chris Hero & Mike Quackenbush during the merger between the CZW Wrestling Academy and the CHIKARA Wrestle Factory he made his in ring debut at the inaugural Maven Bentley Association event, a sister company of CZW, at Northeast High School in Philadelphia, PA on April 16, 2005. Six months later Drew Gulak made his Combat Zone Wrestling debut at Down With The Sickness 4-Ever, a tribute show to the late Chris Cash defeating over 20 participants in an over the top rope battle royal on September, 10th 2005. Known as “Legal Eagle” and “University City Stretcher”, Gulak currently works for promotions such as: Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), Westside Xtreme Wrestling, EVOLVE, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, CHIKARA, and Dragon Gate USA.

Drew Gulak is one the best technical wrestlers in the United States today. His matches are very reminiscent of old school mat wrestling. When I watch his matches I see William Regal with a twist Claudio Castagnoli (Ceasaro). He is incredibly versatile, has the charisma to connect with a crowd, and has a look that appeals to most audiences. Gulak is a fantastic talent and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for him. I have no doubts that he will be a household name sooner rather than later.

Let’s take a look at some of his accomplishments and championships thus far in his career:
CZW World Heavyweight Championship (1 time)
CZW World Tag Team Championship (2 times) – with Andy Sumner
CZW Wired TV Championship (1 time)
Chris Cash Memorial Battle Royal (2005)
Fifth CZW Triple Crown Champion
Evolve Style Battle Tournament Winner (2013)
New York Wrestling Connection Master of the Mat (2014)
